Sycamore Presbyterian Church

Philip and Nora Gelston - Church Planting in Wiesbaden Germany

After having served as the youth pastor at Sycamore for 6 years (2005-2011), I have been called by the PCA to plant a church in Wiesbaden, Germany. Sycamore has been a wonderful place for us to grow in ministry and be nurtured by God’s people. It pains us to leave but we recognize many blessings in our lives that make ministry in Germany much easier for us than for the average American pastor.

My wife Nora is German and grew up about an hour from Wiesbaden in a little Rhineland town called Bad Breisig. Wiesbaden has 270,000 people and is 30 minutes west of Frankfurt. Our ministry is aimed at international English speakers with the hopes of becoming instrumental in indigenous church planting.  We will also have a special ministry to American military personnel, as there are many members of the military at the local bases.

Nora and I have three sons: Paul (b. 2007), Tommy (b. 2008) and Johannes or ‘Johnny’ (b. 2011). All of Nora’s family lives in Germany and she only speaks German with our children- so the only one who doesn’t fit in yet is me. I will spend my first six months in Germany learning the language and culture at the Goethe Institute in Frankfurt.

We are excited to partner with Sycamore because we believe God has especially used the people of this church to prepare us for such a ministry. We thank God for Sycamore and look forward to many visitors from there in the future.

Below is a PDF explaining our ministry as well as giving information. Please consider partnering with us.
