2012 Winter Semester Offerings:
ACTS of the Apostles
by Mary MacArthur
Led by Becky Ulmer and Jennifer Kruger
The book of ACTS is a bridge between the four Gospels and the letters written by Peter and Paul. It provides us with an account of the early development of the New Testament church. It is much more than a history book, however, as it provides practical instruction for believers of every age. Acts provides us with examples of God's powerful workings through His people and shows that His power is still available to us today. We face many of the same conditions as the early Christians as we are becoming more and more of a minority and are subject to ungodly pressures. The Word is practical and intended to ACT upon our hearts and lives and helps us to become "doers of the word." This class will require homework and class discussion as we discuss what God is teaching us through our personal study.
ISAIAH, The Lord Saves
by Kathleen Nielson
Led by Cathy Whitehead
Kathleen Nielson says her goal in writing this study "is to encourage and enable people to read it with growing understanding and joy". We are all familiar with the verses read at Christmas and Easter. Kathleen will lead us through an overview of the book of Isaiah and show us how these beautiful verses are all woven together. In ISAIAH, we see God's judgement, His mercy, and His promise of our redeemer, who was sent “to heal the brokenhearted" and to "give us beauty for ashes." Isa.61: 1b and 5a.
Psalms, Songs Along the Way
by Kathleen Nielson
Led by Kay Williams & Lydia Martin
Kathleen Nielson introduces the whole book of Psalms and guides the reader through detailed study of selected psalms. A diverse selection of 12 different psalms (psalms of praise, lament, etc.) illumines the Psalter’s beauty and breadth, encouraging further use of psalms in study, prayer, and worship.
