Walk for Life 2018

Jim & Meredith Bates have shown loving hearts and helpful hands in their involvement with the Pregnancy Resource Center of Richmond (PRC). For weeks, Sycamore collected donations of baby items. In the end, more than 10 baskets of diapers, wipes, shampoo, bottles, lotions and much more were donated!  The items, delivered to PRC by the Bates, will support clients participating in parenting classes and those who are in desperate need. Thank you, Sycamore, for your generosity!

In addition to the collecting baby items, the PRC's largest fundraiser of the year is their annual Walk For Life. Jim & Meredith both walked in this event. The follow is an account of the day, in Jim's own words:

The Pregnancy Resource Center of Richmond held it's annual Walk-For-Life event on Saturday, April 28th. It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect with mid to upper 60 degree temperatures without a single cloud in the sky!

Several hundred people, many with young families and strollers, turned out to support the Sanctity of Life!  Sycamore had a great turnout; from the Walkshak's working the volunteer tables to a half dozen families showing up to walk!

The kickoff started with Kim Warburton giving a small speech thanking the volunteers and walkers for taking the time to support the Walk-For-Life. Kim then introduced Michael Wilburn, Pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, who performed the Walk "Kickoff" with prayer.

The walk was a couple of miles up and down Monument Avenue. It was a great sight to see all the Walkers, many with strollers and lots of balloons, stretched down the sidewalks as the Walk was underway.  The light breeze, shade from the trees and great conversation with friends just made it a wonderful time—it didn't even feel like walking! Half way through the walk, a group of young ladies from the National Girls Ministries, set up a water station serving ice cold water. It was appreciated very much; though it wasn't terribly hot, it's still nice to have a cup of cold, clear water after walking a while.

Upon returning from the walk, the Knights of Columbus had prepared lunch for everyone in the Immanuel Baptist Church activity hall. There was plenty of food, fellowship, and laughter.

The Pregnancy Resource Center is thankful to Sycamore Presbyterian Church for your continued support, volunteer activities, and dedication to the Sanctity of Life. We'd love to see you walk with us next year!
