Hezekiah's Faulty Faith

February 21, 2016 Speaker: Harry Long Series: Isaiah: The Trustworthiness of God

Scripture: Isaiah 38:1–39:8

1. Hezekiah trusted in the Lord (2 Kings 18:1-7)

2. But Hezekiah believed there was no life after death (Isaiah 38)

        Hezekiah became ill and despaired
God heard his prayer and spared
        Hezekiah rejoiced and declared
“The living, the living – they praise you!”

3. Hezekiah cared only for his own peace and security (Isaiah 39)

        Hezekiah naively displayed
His wealth to envoys when they
Brought gifts from a land far away
“The living, the living – they praise me!”

        Isaiah warned that one day
        These Babylonians would carry away
        His wealth and descendants
        And leave Judah desolate.
        Hezekiah thought, “That’s okay.
        While I’m living – I’ll have peace... That’s okay.”
